What a year we are having. Uncertainty abounds. Along with the bad, there is good happening too. I am diligently focusing on ways to see the good happening in:
- my neighborhood (an uncared for house/yard is undergoing massive clean-up and refurbishment),
- in my community (people ran for office like never before and are volunteering like never before),
- in my state (good-deed doers are in every community helping families and children and recognizing businesses who can use our purchases),
- in my country (people voted. And whatever this election’s results produce, GOOD is still happening), and
- in my world (people are talking about and taking action on important issues that affect every person on this planet – now and for generations to come!).
Nesting may mean we hole ourselves up and away from the world in order to regroup, re-energize, and rally to forge ahead. Nesting may also mean we stay active in our communities and world. Either way, know that helpful nesting includes seeing the good happening all around us. The small things many might not see and the big, noticeable actions, objects, and events too.
While reading each month, I watch for items and quotes that remind me of joy, goodness, and nesting. This quote from Veranda magazine editor-in-chief Steele Thomas Marcoux struck me: “As we prepare to spend more time at home, let us commit to filling our personal spaces with more of what makes us happy.” What can you edit out of your spaces because these things do not make you happy? What can you thoughtfully place in your home that does make you happy?
In other reading, a drawing titled “The Comfort Couch and The Safety Sofa” by Jacob Hieter captured my attention. I saw this art in a regional newsletter called Word On The Street (October 2020 cover). Comfort and Safety. I’ve blogged before on the topic of nesting including both comfort and safety. A comfort-couch is important for every home. For many in our communities, a safety-sofa would be a welcome addition to life. What comfort and/or safety seating is in your home?
If you are fortunate enough to have both comfort and safety seating in your home – that is good, great even! See the Good!

Nesting is about the objects and experiences that create a sense of home. Without home, it is difficult to maintain health, find joy, or to be productive. Enjoy the Nesting series of blogs on your search for and creation of a deep sense of home. Also, enjoy browsing NestingCards.com for fun, for gifts, and for joy-spreading possibilities. ~ Jana
