Nesting: Pause

Pause. Take a look around. What do you see in your next? Consider what you see. Reflect on the meanings of each object, piece of furniture, work of art,  and color. Discover which things still reflect you as you are now.

Pause. Invite things which and people who bring you joy, comfort, and a spirit of positive possibilities into your life.

Pause for a moment, an hour, a day, or a week. Sometimes the longer we pause, the more clarity we find. Recall that a pause is a time in which little to nothing is said or done; heard or responded to.

Explore whether you are in a painful pause because healing is needed. Or, whether you are in a pregnant pause that is calling forth your creativity.

Each pause in our lives provides an opportunity to regroup, or to stay stuck. Each pause brings to our attention a need for a positive change, for healing, for growth, and/or for meeting new people.

Pause to walk around your yard, neighborhood park, or city block. Look for something you’ve never noticed before. Spot a new bloom. See a new neighbor. Discover a new shop. Locate a bench and sit down to people watch as a part of your pause.

Pause in a library. Put together a puzzle. Visit the magazine section to read something new. Research an interesting topic with the help of the reference librarian. Select a new magazine from the FREE magazine bin. Check out a book you’ve had on your list to read. A pause in a place that stimulates new and creative thinking might be just the jumpstart you are needing.

At work, pause to regroup, to refresh your creativity and problem-solving skills. Pause by taking a 10-minute walk. Cleaning your workspace may be just the pause to jumpstart your project. Pause while walking to the printer and get a drink of water. Pauses can last for seconds or minutes and be equally refreshing.

In the heat of summer, pause in front of a fan or enjoy relaxing in a hammock. In the cool of fall and cold of winter, enjoy a cup of something warm in front of a fireplace. In the promise of spring, look for new growth and blooms daily. In the sunshine of a morning, look up at the sky to see birds circling or flying in formation. Listen for the screes and calls of birds in flight, or in nearby trees. Each season invites us to pause, look, listen, and reflect in joy-filled ways.

Each season of our lives also invites pauses such as: listening to children laughing; watching wild animals in motion; celebrating moments small and large; sharing stories with family and friends; passing along wisdom and lessons learned.

Pause. When will you pause? What will you do – or not do during your pause?

Nesting is about the objects and experiences that create a sense of home. Without home, it is difficult to maintain health, find joy, or to be productive during our workdays. Enjoy the Nesting series of blogs on your search for a deep sense of home. –Jana
