Framed photos have appointed tables, walls, bookshelves, and the china hutch in my house for decades. These photos remind me of friends, family members, travels, and happy moments. The frames typically accent the captured experience.
A resin frame depicting wooded wilderness and a bear holds a 30-year-old picture taken in Minnesota while canoeing. A twig-style frame holds the picture of me in England in front of Parliament. A stucco-style mini-frame holds a picture taken in Greece when I attended a wedding, a six-month memorial funeral service, and experienced the real-blues of the Mediterranean Sea.
The 13-year school-photo frame is now complete! Kindergarten through Senior Year photos smile at me every time I walk through the hallway from the living room to the bedrooms. Each photo holds the story of one year. The frame holds the stories of 13 years. So many memories, so many challenges and triumphs too.
In my office: A framed custom license plate reminds me of a two-year endeavor to affect change in my state. The English and Italian versions of my first book Moving Meetings are matted and framed together, hanging in my office to remind me of the beginning of my book-writing life. The book jacket for my second book NO! is matted and framed in colors found on the jacket. This frame reminds of the book that is literally available around the world: English, Turkish, Polish, Dutch, Arabic, and Chinese.
Nesting includes images – framed or not – that remind us of happy times, accomplishments, places, and people. Appoint your home with happy reminders of your experiences, friends, and family. Several family’s I know use their piano tops for frame and photo displays. Others use bookshelves for photos instead of books. Some use dresser tops and wall space for the frames that hold happy-time reminders.
Wherever you place your frames, let them create happiness and prompt a smile. Include people, places, trips, and times that truly brought you joy. Sort and re-arrange once a year as a way to celebrate the joys in your life and to make room for new experiences too.
