Many, many introverts have commented and posted how happy they are about stay-home orders; how “they were born for this” or “love my family and animals – don’t need to see anyone else.” And yes, I have newfound appreciation for the exhaustion introverts may feel dealing with people and the world on a daily basis – in the “old days.”
As an extrovert, I am stir-crazy. Trying to talk to people to solve problems or get help with my business has only gone well with banks and the mortgage company. Any other place that I have tried to get help is closed, is putting me on hold for two or more hours (yes seriously), pointing me to a website – which is not functioning properly to begin with, or saying “monies won’t come to you until May or June.” Hmm. Okay. Hmm.
So, stir-crazy seems like that best term for today.
Gratitude is also a good term for today. I am grateful to two neighbors who told me about cheaper phone options and companies. I am grateful for the sunshine and water flowing to feed my garden beds. I am grateful for a 15-year-old car that still runs. I am grateful for book club and last night’s energizing conversations: What went well for you this week, and discussion of two-months worth of books. I am grateful for last Saturday night’s ZOOM book club two and one-half hour discussion with another group. AND, I am VERY grateful for ZOOM and companies like them. Without virtual meetings – just imagine how stir-crazy we extroverts would be.
I am grateful for my family and friends. For their patience and insights. For their good cheer. For social-distance walks-and-talks.
Cleaning is fairly well in hand. Yes, still more can be done, however, on stir-crazy days – nothing seems appealing. And, job applications are in motion for many people I know. Who knows what will come of these submissions into what seems like an electronic void.
Growing like crazy is the garden news: Columbine are about to bloom and the rhubarb is over two feet tall. So grateful for the rays of brightness that erupt from the ground in the form of plant life!
“Busier than ever” is what some businesses are reporting. Hooray! Well done!
Other businesses are dying day by day with no end in sight and no promised hope/funds yet delivered. Stir-crazy might be an understatement for these individuals and companies.
Pause. Look for silver linings and gratitude moments – hopefully you can find at least one.
What do you do when stir-crazy sets in?
