Nesting: Hot Water

Hot water is a part of my home and nesting rituals. One of my favorite things for relaxing is a long hot shower. My daughter as a child liked hot baths as a calm-down tool. Her record: five baths in one day. Yes, these five baths helped her. Yes, these five baths consumed a lot of hot water. The outcome was worth it: a calm child.

Hot chocolate – made from hot milk or water – is another favorite nesting ritual.

Hot water is a term that can literally mean water that is hot. It can also mean “being in trouble” and imply that a person wants to get out.

Growing up in Minnesota, our water was softened to reduce the effects of minerals on our lives. The only water that was not softened was at the kitchen sink – so that we weren’t using softened water for cooking. Now, living in Idaho, where some have softened water, and I don’t, I realize how easy it is to free myself of soap and shampoo when the water is not softened. We all have our preferences, that’s for certain.

When in a conference or meeting room that is cold, I’ve been known to get warm by doing one or both of these two things. 1. Wash my hands in hot water. 2. Hold a cup of hot water while in the meeting. Both work! Both make me feel warmer.

Hot water is no longer recommended for laundry loads – in order to save energy and help clothing last longer.

However, the Sanitize option on dishwashers uses lots of hot water. Want clean dishes – use hot water. Water temperature does create different results depending on your use of the water. Room temperature water for drinking suits me fine; unless it is hot then I prefer cooler water; unless I am cold, then I want warm or hot water.

What is your hot water – Your tool for relaxation? Your approach to getting physically warm?
