Nesting

Nesting: Hello

Remember the viral video of the baby saying “hello” in response to Adele’s song Hello? Sending a card can create the same effect. Your “thinking of you” message may prompt a phone call, an electronic message, or a greeting card sent to you in return.

Each hello we extend in person, in writing, or with our voices brings uplift and in some cases outright joy. Recall the expression of joy when you saw a friend or family member not seen in a year or two. Was the expression excitement? Overwhelming relief to see you? Was the expression tear-filled happiness?

Greeting cards can have a similar effect on recipients. In fact, here are some note-sending quotes from national poet Amanda Gorman.

  • According to her research, the USPS reports that more letters are being sent in the US than pre-pandemic. USPS users report that receiving letters raises spirits!
  • from her poem “War: What, Is It Good?” page 123 of her book Call Us What We Carry (2021): “Writing, truth-telling to one another, is an act of hope-making when hope is hardest to be found.”

Letter writing can improve the world! Maybe even change the world – one person at a time. NestingCards sets, including the pictured Contemplations set by Peg Owens, provide visual delights to support your message. Joys can be shared through the written word – “Happy Birthday, Love You” is sometimes all the message needs to be. Other times, a longer letter or story told is what the moment prompts you to share.

Whatever message speaks to you, that is the one to share. Recipients will be glad to hear from you.
